Advertisements, bands and other corporations use these as outlets to get their word out. Who knows what they will come up with next?! These systems seem invasive, asking “What are you doing right now?” but it’s only as invasive as the user lets it go. Either status updates about -them doing to the RR or posting a link to a new campaign. The Social network has is only limited to it’s user.

As children we were conditioned to “follow the leader”. Games like Follow the leader or Simon Says teach us to follow but not lead. There are not enough Leaders among us. We have the capacity to create radical movements through social networking yet very few have taken on the challenge. It’s amazing how fast media can transmit messages. Within seconds thousands can be alerted. Use the power of social media to create a tribe of people moving for the same cause. Twitter is a great example of tribal power. Every person that has tagged you is now your follower. You are now a leader. Seth Godin makes a great point. He says “If people care enough they will find a true leader”……but the one that cares the most will become a leader. (I added the last part).

1000 years from now what will society conclude from our remains? Probably that we worshiped Britney Spears and that our idea of beauty was a blonde bipolar pop-star. Media focuses so much on garbage hopefully the future doesn’t follow this trend. I Just went to yahoo.com and the top stories were *Rihanna’s new hairdo *Mother confesses balloon hoax *Obama’s Family picture unveiled. Seriously?! Are we not in a recession? Fighting Global Warming? …BUT then i looked over at Yahoo’s Top searches and those were *Halloween Costumes * Hilary Swank * New York Yankees. We the consumer are not looking for what’s important we are feeding the media. “We get what we ask for!” So a 1000 years from now if this vicious cycle never ends…media will be just the same except they will be worshiping a new blonde pop-star.

Communications class Day One…. My professor taught me a lesson even before I stepped foot in the classroom. I was walking around aimlessly when I spotted an intellectual (someone with a mustache, button up and a cup of joe). I asked him if he knew where the the RLC bldg was… he didn’t know but jokingly pointed to a sign he spotted that marked I was in the right building. I politely thanked him and carried on up the stairs to find room number 305. When I stepped into the classroom lo and behold my professor was Mr. Cup of Joe. Wow Glad I didn’t say something dumb crossed my mind as i found me seat. LESSON ONE: (not yelling, just emphasizing) Treat everyone with respect and courtesy, who knows the next person you meet may be giving you your grade! Then Professor Landa later discussed that everyone makes assumptions of one another and filters communication with those ideas. Which led me to think…First impressions are very important because from that point on the receiver will only hear what they want from the filter they have pre-set for you. So go out there and make sure you give people an accurate impression of yourself, this way others are able to communicate with the real You. Hopefully that all made sense because it’s almost bedtime! Adios!
